About Me

My artistic practice is driven by a fascination with the natural world and its infinite variations. I use landscape photography primarily as a medium to explore the beauty, complexity, and fragility of our world. Through my images, I aim to capture the essence of a place, its mood and atmosphere. I seek to create a dialogue between the viewer and the environment and invite them to reflect on that relationship. My work is influenced by both traditional and contemporary approaches to photography, as well as my own personal experiences and travel. I use a variety of techniques to explore other photographic styles that allow me to create images that are both realistic and abstract, that strive to evoke a sense of wonder and curiosity.

Ma pratique artistique est motivée par une fascination pour le monde naturel et ses infinies variations. J'utilise la photographie de paysage principalement comme moyen d'explorer la beauté, la complexité et la fragilité de notre monde. À travers mes images, je vise à capturer l'essence d'un lieu, son ambiance et son atmosphère. Je cherche à créer un dialogue entre le spectateur et l'environnement et l'invite à réfléchir sur cette relation. Mon travail est influencé à la fois par les approches traditionnelles et contemporaines de la photographie ainsi que par mes propres expériences personnelles et mes voyages. J'utilise diverses techniques pour explorer d'autres styles photographiques qui me permettent de créer des images à la fois réalistes et abstraites qui s'efforcent d'évoquer un sentiment d'émerveillement et de curiosité

Bio 2023

Maurice Gauvin is a multidisciplinary visual artist currently focusing on photography.  He has participated in several group shows in the Kingston area for both his photography and sculpture. In 2018 he won a public commission with the city of Kingston for an outdoor installation entitled Paved Paradise. Currently residing in Montreal, he has lived in Kingston, Ottawa, and Whistler. He has collaborated with other artists on the creation and installation of contemporary sculpture in Calgary, Buffalo, Miami, and New York. His photographic interests reside primarily in landscape and still life photos which can be characterized by their balanced compositions, bold color, and unique perspective.

Maurice Gauvin est un artiste visuel multidisciplinaire qui se concentre actuellement sur la photographie. Il a participé à plusieurs expositions collectives dans la région de Kingston, tant pour sa photographie que pour sa sculpture. En 2018, il remporte une commande publique avec la ville de Kingston pour une installation extérieure intitulée Paved Paradise. Résidant actuellement à Montréal, il a vécu à Kingston, Ottawa et Whistler. Il a collaboré avec d'autres artistes à la création et à l'installation de sculptures contemporaines à Calgary, Buffalo, Miami et New York. Ses intérêts photographiques résident principalement dans les photos de paysages et de natures mortes qui se caractérisent par leurs compositions équilibrées, leurs couleurs vives et leur perspective unique.
